Others

Photographer Unknown

“Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind let each of you regard one another as more important than himself.” (NASB)
Don't push your way to the front; don't sweet-talk your way to the top. Put yourself aside, and help others get ahead.” (Message)
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.” (NIV)
Who do you think about as you travel through your day? Are you focused on what you want, what you like, where you are going, what your needs are? Do you completely forget about anybody else around you? Sure, we all do that from time to time, but has it become a general way of life?

According to the Word of God, that is the wrong way to think. It is a selfish way to think. People become weary of the selfish ones around them...always talking about themselves and never asking how anybody else is doing, never giving consideration for what the other person may need.

Did you notice the people around you are hurting? Did you know that someone feels lonely? Don’t be so caught up in your own life and your own thing to think about and serve others around you.

My favorite version of this verse is the NIV, “consider others better than your selves”. Look around to see what you can do to help others, to make them more important, to help them get ahead.

Write the word “others” on a sticky note and  put it on your bathroom mirror, and commit it to memory. When you look at yourself in the morning you’ll also remember to look at others throughout the rest of the day.

When you begin to consider others better than yourself you will open yourself up to a whole new realm of blessing.

What can you do today to show that you consider others as better than yourself?
