One of my biggest challenges to eating healthy is finding something to bring to work for lunch. Fortunately that’s only two days a week and most times there are enough leftovers I can bring something to eat.
But sometimes I’m scrounging for food at 7:00 in the morning, and who wants to think about lunch that time of day? Bleck.
That’s why it’s good to have a plan.
Here are a few easy ways to have a healthy lunch at work.
Have A Plan
Because without a plan you’ll be hungry! Prepare extra food at dinner or plan a menu for the week’s lunches before your trip to the grocery store. Knowing ahead of time helps you choose wisely instead of grabbing a frozen dinner at the grocery store in the morning on your way in. (Not that I’ve ever done that. What?!)
Crock-Pot Lunch Crock
This is awesome! I reviewed it here so check it out. It’s been worth what I paid for it and then some. It’s perfect for heating leftovers for lunch - soup, omelets, chicken and potatoes, casseroles - whatever you want to eat hot, but without the microwave!
Bring Fruits and Vegetables
The more produce we eat the better! It will refuel your body for afternoon tasks, help you think better and keep you in optimal condition for the stresses that may come your way. It will also help you keep your quick wit, which may come in handy with your boss. Just sayin'!

Bring Protein
Protein isn’t always meat. Look for protein sources like legumes (kidney beans, etc), quinoa, dark green leafy (spinach, kale) or even eggs. If you’re a meat-lover, bring quality, whole meat like chicken, salmon, or even steak. Avoid deli meat or any other meat that has been processed.
Tip: Rice and beans combined make a perfect protein. Or combine three different color vegetables to create protein.
Eat With A Friend
Spending time with people we love contributes to our health. It’s always a good thing to connect with people, laugh, share stories and build relationship. We all need to feel like we belong to a community.
Eat Alone
Sometimes it’s good to eat alone. Take a few minutes to close your eyes, relax, clear your mind and enjoy your food.
Take A Walk
If you have time and the weather cooperates, go outside. Taking a 10-minute walk has amazing benefits for your body and will help you fire up for the rest of your day!
